A Dubliner, Michael McCabe started in the amateur Drama group ‘The Matrix Players’, reaching the 1 act final in 1992 at The Belltable Theatre, ‘The Dandy Dolls’, directed by Dermot Cummins. Now a graduate of the prestigious Ecole Internationale de Theater Jacques Lecoq, Paris, and the Gaiety School of Acting, his many theatre appearances include ‘Borstal Boy’. ‘The Risen People’ (Gaiety Theatre), ‘The Ginger Ale Boy’, (Corcadorca Theatre Company), ‘Lives Worth Living’ (Graffitti Theatre Company), ‘A Day With Daghdha’, (Daghdha Dance Company), ‘Jeckyll and Hyde’ (Dublin Fringe Festival), ‘Macbeth’, ‘St. Joan’, ‘Six Characters in Search of an Author’, and ‘Ariel’ (The Abbey Theatre), ‘City Of Clowns’ (Barabbas Theatre Company), and ‘Pagliacci’ (The Everyman Palace Theatre), which won best opera in The Irish Times Theatre awards in 2013.
His television and film appearances include ‘Aristocrats’ (BBC), ‘Ireland : 1848’, ‘All God’s Children’ (RTE and IFI), and ‘Sodium Party’. Michael’s work as a Director and lecturer has included the Conservatoire in TUDublin (formerly Dublin Institute of Technology), The Gaiety School of Acting, Dundalk Institute of Technology, and the National Association of Youth Drama. In 2014, he was awarded a scholarship to train with the internationally renowned SITI Theatre Company and Anne Bogart. Most recently, he directed and devised a new version of the Peter Pan story, ‘Peter Pan’s Cirqui D’Imaginaire’ at TUDublin Conservatoire, and their ‘Final Year Graduation Drama Showcase’ in The New Theatre.
He is Artistic Director of a Lumiere Theatre Company, a new holistic theatre company creating a creative centre for the general public, and performing artists. Michael is interested in sharing his unique 25 years international professional theatre experience and training with the amateur circuit to advance creative expression on a stage with our audiences. He has directed theatre workshops with many amateur Drama groups such as La Touche players, Dalkey Players, Square One, and most recently, with the Coolgreaney Drama group.
