Michael McCabe is a graduate of the prestigious Ecole Internationale de Theater Jacques Lecoq, Paris, and the Gaiety School of Acting (National Theatre School of Ireland). His theatre appearances include ‘Borstal Boy’, ‘The Risen People’ (Gaiety Theatre), 'A Christmas Carol' and ‘The Ginger Ale Boy’, (Corcadorca Theatre Company), ‘Lives Worth Living’ (Graffiti Theatre Company), ‘A Day With Daghdha’, (Daghdha Dance Company); 'Surrender' (O'Reilly Theatre, choreographed by John Scott); ‘Jeckyll and Hyde’ (Dublin Fringe Festival); 'Elemental' (Black Box Theatre); ‘Macbeth’, ‘St. Joan’, ‘Six Characters in Search of an Author’, and ‘Ariel’ (The Abbey Theatre); 'Promises, Promises' (Project Arts Centre, choreographed by Julie Lockett); ‘City Of Clowns’ (Barabbas Theatre Company), ' When the Shoe FIts (Pavilion Theatre, directed by Conall Morrisson); ‘Pagliacci’ (The Everyman Palace Theatre), winner, best opera, The Irish Times Theatre awards 2014. MIchael has just appeared in 'Soul Flower', a new play about Lucia Joyce, at the Pumphouse, Dublin Port, directed by Patrick Byrnes.

His television and film appearances include: He is currently appearing in BellX1's new video, 'Haint Blue' (Director Ellius Grace); ‘Aristocrats’ (BBC);' A Sticky Situation' (RTE); 'Window' and 'Ireland:1848, (Lighthouse Cinema) ‘Joey and Auguste’ (IFI); ‘‘All God’s Children’ (RTE and IFI) ; 'Noemia' (IFI); 'Are you Going for a Pint? (RTE and ITV); and ‘Sodium Party. (Cork Film Festival) Michael is due to appear in 2 new short films being released soon: 'The Ophelia Project' (director; Tony McLeane-Fay) and 'Farmers?! directed by Freddie Leyden.

Michael’s work as a lecturer has included the Conservatoire in TUDublin (formerly Dublin Institute of Technology), The Gaiety School of Acting, Dundalk Institute of Technology, Bray Institute of Further Education and the National Association of Youth Drama.

In 2014, he was awarded a scholarship to train with the internationally renowned SITI Theatre Company and Anne Bogart. His directing work includes: ‘A Wonderful Life’, ‘Peter Pan’s Cirque D’Imaginaire’, (TUDublin Theatre);‘Showcase’ (The New Theatre) and ‘The Grimm Tales’, Smock Alley for TUDublin Conservatoire, ‘Collecting Dolls’ (Civic Theatre); ‘The Dead Woman’s’ Son (Smock Alley); ‘The Gathering’ (Lexicon Theatre); and most recently, ‘Airport Journey’ (Smock Alley for Scene and Heard Festival 2023).

Michael has a B.A. (2.1 Honours) in Communication Studies from Dublin City University, an M.A. in Modern Drama Studies (University College Dublin) and an M.A. in Dramatherapy (2.1 Honours), National University of Ireland, Maynooth. He regularly leads theatre and Dramatherapy workshops at all levels.

In summer 2022, Michael had the privilege of training with both SITI and Anne Bogart, in New York City; the Suzuki Company of Toga, (SCOT) and Tadashi Suzuki, Toga, Japan, and is teaching and sharing this work since. He was appointed an SITI ambassador in 2023. He has led theatre workshops in Lodz, Sofia, Valencia, Vuvokar, Sienna, Aarhus, Reggio Emilia, Tokyo, New York CIty, and Matera in the last 2 years.

He is Artistic Director of a Lumiere Theatre Company, a physical theatre company aiming for a creative holistic centre for performing artists and the general public. Michael is interested in sharing his unique international professional theatre experience and training with the amateur circuit to advance creative expression on a stage with our audiences. He has directed theatre workshops with many amateur Drama groups such as La Touche players, Dalkey Players, Square One, and most recently, the Coolgreaney Drama group.
